Abstract: "Slow but steady wins the race." While some historians doubt that the events depicted in Aesop's bestelling fable "The Hare and the Tortoise" actually took place (wouldn't the fox have eaten the hare?), the simplicity of the story and a natural attraction to and sympathy for the underdog (undertortoise?) have made the story a memorable favourite since it was written.
