The BC government has enacted two new laws, two amendments to the Employment Standards Act recently to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic which will provide some relief to employees and employers. The first is called COVID-19 Related Relief, and the second is an illness and injury leave. So the key thing that is occurring right now in employment law with the COVID-19 pandemic is layoffs. And employers can face significant liabilities if a layoff or termination is handled inappropriately.
