What you can expect:

We currently have an opening in our Vancouver office for an Intermediate Family Paralegal. This role requires an individual who is organized, effective at multi-tasking and detail oriented, with strong communication and people skills. Depending on experience and knowledge, the core responsibilities of the role will be, but not limited to:

  • Organization and management of files
  • Preparation of Lists of Documents
  • Drafting various Pleadings and documents (e.g., Notices of Family Claim, Counterclaims, Affidavits, Financial Statements, Applications, Affidavits, Orders and Discovery Demands)
  • Drafting various court documents and file related correspondence
  • Managing a bring-forward system for trial and court deadlines 
  • Completing trial preparation
  • Preparation of Scott Schedules: calculations of retroactive and ongoing child and spousal support using DivorceMate software
  • Conducting research of case law, records, court files and other legal documents
  • Communicating and drafting correspondence with clients, opposing counsel, etc.
  • Reviewing and summarizing financial documents

What you bring to the table:

  • Minimum 3 years’ of experience as a Paralegal, preferably with a Family Law background; civil litigation background also accepted
  • A Paralegal Certificate or Diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Understanding of the legal process and the Rules of Court
  • Familiarity with DivorceMate and Court Services Online
  • Proficient with MS Word and Outlook
  • Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail
  • Confident at engaging and interacting with clients, lawyers, and other staff
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work in independently and in a team environment
