Kirby is a business person’s lawyer who understands the need to move at the speed of business. A self-confessed “deal junkie”, he has over 25 years of experience as a private practitioner, General Counsel and senior in-house counsel at a number of public and private companies, both national and international. He advances his clients’ interests by combining skills gained through his MBA and legal schooling with his operational insight and legal experience to provide clients with overall, comprehensive advice. He is an effective legal project manager who is able to take complex issues and simplify them for clients while moving them forward in a timely manner.
As Director for Legal Services for Sobeys West, Kirby was responsible for all legal matters for Western Canada including franchising, real estate, leasing, construction and transportation. His time with The Brick during the 2008 financial crisis taught him the importance of corporate resilience and innovation. As General Counsel for Landmark Homes, he was a member of the executive team that earned Landmark the title of 50 Best Managed Companies for 2013. He led the organizational team for Landmark’s expansion into Phoenix, Arizona ensuring that appropriate business structures were in place to cover off local and cross border tax concerns
More recently Kirby has been involved with business incubator groups by advising start-up businesses and private investor groups. He also advises on business acquisitions.
When he is not at the office, Kirby enjoys cooking and driving sports cars.
